The Story

Our Main Hall & Loft at First & Green was a hardware store for 150 years, and an important hub for Grenada. Built in 1867 during the post-Civil War construction boom, this venerable building is home to many stories. Today many remember it as the place where they got their first bicycle, a treasured baseball glove or their first washing machine.

Since Deborah Bailey purchased and renovated it in 2013, it has seen hundreds of beautiful celebrations. Wedding receptions and ceremonies, family reunion banquets and church services, milestone birthdays, corporate events, and major charity and civic events have added many more gorgeous stories to the building’s history.

The Space

Charming, stately, and welcoming, our Main Hall offers a wonderful place for celebrations of milestone events. The original 14’ high bead board ceilings and heart pine floors are complemented by floor to ceiling bookshelves, which combine to create a warm atmosphere and wonderful acoustics.

Other features include the manual elevator and the sliding ladders once used to haul supplies up and down, and Hunter Original ceiling fans, almost 100 years old.

The upstairs Loft, with comfy sofas and chairs and a large powder room and oversized door to accommodate big dresses, is often used by bridesmaids and brides getting dressed, and as a catch-our-breath space for bride and groom between ceremony and reception.

The staircase with two large landings creates a dramatic entrance point.

We also have a well-appointed on site kitchen we use to prepare lovely feasts, and a wooden bar that can be moved to any part of space.

Main Hall seated capacity with dance floor and buffet table space is approximately 200, Outdoor seating can easily be added. Standing capacity is approximately 250.

Related Spaces

In addition to The Loft upstairs, the Main Hall is connected to Miss Emma’s Dining Room and to The Garden outside via the newly renovated cosy Snug. Larger events also use The Hide, another space adjacent to The Garden.
